SAN Miguel Beer is tapping high-scoring import George King as its reinforcement for the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup.
SMB team manager Gee Abanilla confirmed the news to The Manila Times on Thursday.
The Beermen grabbed the chance to secure the services of the former Phoenix Suns gunner after the Blackwater Bossing released his rights in the PBA.
The 32-year-old King marks his third PBA stint for the season-ending conference, with the Beermen hoping the American could be the missing piece to their championship aspirations this season.
King, the former University of Colorado standout, churned out all-around numbers of 34.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in the 2024-25 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
King’s scoring outburst reached its peak against Rain or Shine by dropping 64 points in a 139-118 victory by Blackwater.
King has an extensive overseas experience, having previously played in Lebanon, Egypt and Iraq. He recently played in Taiwan’s P+League and the Gladiators Trier in Germany.
The 6-foot-5 King adds solid firepower for an SMB side that banners a championship-caliber squad led by nine-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, Jericho Cruz, Marcio Lassiter, and PBA 3-point king Jerrick Ahanmisi, whom the team acquired in a recent trade with Terrafirma.
