The Los Angeles Angels are reportedly listening to offers for shortstop Zach Neto ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline. As the Angels look to rebuild, Neto could be headed to a contender before the deadline.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter named the Boston Red Sox as the top landing spot for Neto. Two-time All-Star shortstop Trevor Story has been out since May, so the Red Sox could use an infield upgrade like Neto.
“Veteran Trevor Story has been sidelined since the end of May after undergoing sports hernia surgery, and he had a 56 OPS+ in 176 plate appearances prior to the injury.
“The Red Sox have been one of the hottest teams in baseball, vaulting from potential sellers to clear buyers, and there is no more pressing need than upgrading an infield that has Anthony Seigler and Andruw Monasterio as its current double play combination,” Reuter wrote.
Neto has slashed .235/.326/.440 with a .766 OPS and 19 home runs across 104 games with the Angels this season. He is also under team control through the 2029 season.
Who Could the Red Sox Offer In Exchange?
Reuter suggested the Red Sox offer shortstop prospect Franklin Arias, right-handed pitching prospect Sadbiel Delzine and infield prospect Yoeilin Cespedes in exchange for Neto.
Arias is the Red Sox’s No. 1 overall prospect and the No. 7 overall prospect across MLB. The Red Sox promoted him to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, and he is projected to make his MLB debut in 2027.
If the Red Sox do not want to give up Arias, Reuter said Boston could offer right-handed pitchers Anthony Eyanson or Justin Gonzalez.
