A routine dog bath on a rare warm day turned into an unexpected police visit after a husky’s dramatic vocal performance sparked concern from nearby neighbors.

In a post shared by u/HoundIt on Reddit, which has since garnered more than 14,000 upvotes in the /husky subreddit, the dog owner described how what was meant to be a peaceful afternoon quickly escalated thanks to their pup Jinx’s infamous pipes.

The Reddit user said that, after weeks of “rain, snow, tornados, and varying, crappy (midwestern) weather,” the day finally reached a pleasant 86 degrees Fahrenheit/30 degrees Celsius, making it the perfect opportunity to bathe their dogs outside. With a hot water tap installed on their outdoor faucet, the owner said they got the water to a comfortable temperature and began washing their dogs—starting with their husky.

That is when the screaming began.

About halfway through the bath, the owner noticed a police officer pull into their driveway. According to the post, the officer approached the gate, asked what was going on, and stood watching as the husky wailed. The owner recalled shampooing their dog while she “was screaming like she was hit by a car,” prompting the officer to ask whether the reaction was normal.

“Yes, sir, it is,” the owner told him. The officer laughed and explained that someone had called in a report about a canine possibly being abused or in need of emergency veterinary care due to the noise.

Embarrassed, the owner apologized and attempted—unsuccessfully—to distract Jinx with peanut butter. In the end, the poster said the officer made a note in the system in case another call came in and left “laughing his a** off.”

The post ended on a familiar note for husky owners everywhere: “Thanks, Jinx, you dramatic little butthole. Get the cops called on me.”

The story struck a chord with other husky owners, many of whom rushed to the comments to share similar experiences with the breed’s famously theatrical vocalizations. “Why, yes, sir. Let Jinx sing you the song of her people,” one user joked.

Another shared a story of law enforcement confusion of their own, writing, “Ohmygosh! My neighbor was wooowooing with his trio when police knocked on his door. They’d had a call for a welfare check. Turns out the officer also was a Husky parent!”

Others pointed out that the phenomenon isn’t limited to dogs. “Same thing has happened to bird owners. There’s a video of a guy outside working on his Mini in his driveway and some cops roll up. His birds were screaming bloody murder and somebody called the police. He brings one out and the bird starts screaming and talking and the cops just start laughing,” another commenter said.

Several husky owners echoed how quickly the screams can escalate. “Our Husky does this any time we take him somewhere in the truck. So dramatic,” one wrote. Another added, “My dog does this all the time…it goes from complete silence to SCREAMING immediately, and ive had 3 of my neighbors approach our door/the gate of our yard to make sure he’s okay.”

For husky owners, the incident served as a reminder that, while the breed is beloved for its personality, those operatic howls can sometimes cause real-world misunderstandings—even police visits.
