This past Friday, LeBron James ended his highly-publicized free agency process by announcing his decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers.
James joins a franchise with a rich NBA history, including all-time great players like Allen Iverson.
On Tuesday, Iverson joined “The Stephen A. Smith Show” to discuss a variety of topics — including James’ arrival in Philadelphia.
Iverson said he’s “ecstatic” that James chose to join the franchise he called home for 12 NBA seasons.
“Just ecstatic, man. You know I’m just happy for the city of Philadelphia,” Iverson said. “For the team, you know what I mean? The type of player he is, the type of person he is. I’m just happy, man. He brings a lot, you know what I mean? He really is the answer.”
James just finished his eighth and final season with the Los Angeles Lakers. The 41-year-old NBA superstar chose the 76ers over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors.
James signed a two-year contract worth a veteran-minimum $8 million. He now enters his historic 24th NBA season with a talented roster featuring Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.
Iverson said it’s “championship or bust” for the 76ers with James on the roster.
“He just boosts the percentage of any team having a chance to win a championship,” Iverson added. “He’s one of them ones, man. You know what I mean? He’s The King for a reason.”
