LaMelo Ball took the microphone for his introductory press conference with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday, speaking with reporters for the first time since the blockbuster trade that ended his six-year stint with the Charlotte Hornets.
Ball was asked a series of questions, including one about superstar free agent LeBron James.
“Did you put a call in to LeBron and just say ‘Come on with us?'” one reporter asked.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever you’re thinking,” Ball replied with a laugh.
The Timberwolves are reportedly on the short list of teams with a legitimate shot to land James before the 2026-27 NBA season, along with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers.
The Timberwolves have an exciting roster — including Ball, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert — that could entice James to play his 24th season in Minnesota.
“I think the recruitment is this team. Obviously he’s an unbelievable player and whatever decision he makes will be the right one. When you look at this team it’s hard to not be excited for what we have,” Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly said when asked about the team’s recruitment process of James.
James could help fill the Timberwolves’ void at the power forward position following the departures of both Naz Reid and Julius Randle.
