Broncos' Jaylen Waddle trade keeps looking better

The Denver Broncos knew they needed to give their offense a little more electricity.

They had a strong foundation, but something was missing. The running game was built around a committee approach, and behind Courtland Sutton, the receiver room didn’t exactly scream matchup nightmare. That is where the Jaylen Waddle trade starts to make a whole lot of sense.

USA Today’s Nick Brinkerhoff called it a great move, saying that “Waddle fits that mold perfectly,” and it’s hard to argue with the logic. Sean Payton has always been at his best when he has players who can create problems in space, and Waddle is basically designed to make defensive coordinators uncomfortable.

Denver didn’t need another receiver who simply runs routes and hopes the quarterback finds him. The Broncos needed someone who can rule the field. Waddle brings that kind of speed and quickness that forces defenses to adjust before the ball is even snapped. That’s the fun part about players like him. They don’t just make plays. They change how teams have to line up.

For Bo Nix, this is the kind of target that can make life a lot easier. Young quarterbacks need reliable options, but they also need players who can turn a five-yard completion into something much bigger. Waddle’s ability after the catch gives Denver a different element, especially over the middle of the field where Payton’s offense can really start to breathe.

Of course, nothing is guaranteed. A talented receiver doesn’t magically fix every offensive issue, and the NFL has a funny way of throwing out surprises. But this move feels like the Broncos actually understood what their offense was missing.

The Broncos have spent years looking for answers on offense. Adding Waddle might finally give them a little more bite.
