Internet users have been left in stitches by how an exasperated cat owner tried everything to stop her pet from eating something she shouldn’t.

TikTok user Terri Anne, who posts under the username @terrianne37, has gone viral for posting the chaotic moment she spotted her pet getting into the butter, and tried furiously to scare him away.

The problem is, Terri Anne saw this over the pet camera when she was out—and so had to think outside of the box.

In a video posted to her account on February 9, she wrote: “When your cat gets in the butter and [you’re] not at home so you try and scare him away.”

It shows a ginger and white cat leisurely lapping up a carton of butter on the counter, the lid lying haphazardly across it—and suddenly Terri Anne’s voice comes through the camera, hissing at him to “Get off!”

When he ignores her, lazily looking up at the camera before continuing his feast, she takes dire action: shouting gibberish, hissing, barking, and trying to sound like an angry cat.

But he continues on, as she despairs: “It’s not scaring him!”

The video ends after Terri Anne lets out a series of rapid barks and growls, and the cat eventually moves away—but it seems as though he is simply full, rather than having been sent away by his owner’s incredible noises.

She wrote in the caption: “Had to try & get him to stop eating it someway or another!”

TikTok users were in stitches, awarding the video more than 150,000 likes, as one joker commented: “He is too busy not believing it’s not butter.”

Another laughed at the idea of Terri’s coworkers overhearing her making the noises to scare the cat away, but she replied revealing: “My boss was helping me make noises to scare him away!”

And some were skeptical, wondering why the butter was left with the lid off on a place the cat could reach.

But, as Terri Anne proved with screenshots, the lid had been firmly on the butter—until her other cat managed to pull it off.
