A dog owner tucked her pup into bed once—never imagining it would become a nightly tradition.
Kaci Maves (@kacimaves) shared a video of her chocolate Labrador, Boone, snuggling a duck plushie under the covers of a human bed. “I tucked him in one night as a joke and now it’s his nightly routine,” she wrote as text over the clip, which has now garnered 1.7 million views.
“Why is he like this?” she captioned the post.
Why Dogs Love Sleeping in Human Beds
Dogs often prefer sleeping in their owners’ beds because of their pack instinct, emotional security, and desire for closeness.
Experts note that dogs are social animals who naturally seek warmth and safety by staying physically close to trusted companions. Sleeping near humans can reduce anxiety, provide comfort through scent, and deepen the human–dog bond.
Studies also show co‑sleeping can help dogs feel more secure and may even improve their sleep quality.
What to Know About Chocolate Labradors
Chocolate Labradors are not a separate breed but a color variant of the Labrador retriever, known for their friendly personalities, loyalty, and high energy.
The Labrador originates from Newfoundland, where early dogs assisted fishermen with retrieving nets and fish. Over time, Labs became beloved family companions thanks to their intelligence, trainability, and affectionate nature.
Chocolate Labs share the same temperament as yellow and black Labs and are known for their social, people‑oriented behavior—which helps explain why many form strong bedtime routines.
