A cat owner has melted hearts among social media users after sharing what her tabby kitty did right after a winter storm hit their area.

The heartwarming clip shared in January by @rydersupfarm shows the small tabby cat having the best time hopping in the snow and diving in like a dolphin, enchanted by the winter magic as he observes the snow falling on the ground. “A winter storm doesn’t stop the Ryder’s Up gang from having some fun!” the caption reads.

Cats don’t universally love snow, with most domestic felines actually preferring warmth over cold, wet conditions.

A Catster article, medically reviewed and fact-checked by Dr. Marta Vidal-Abarca, explains that feline reaction to snow depends on individual personality and breed. Breeds such as Maine Coons, Siberians, Turkish Angoras, and Norwegian forest cats have thick coats and may enjoy playing in snow.

Cats originated in dry, warm climates, so many avoid cold, wet surfaces and seek cozy spots when temperatures drop.

Safety is important for snow-curious felines: owners should protect their paws by drying them with cotton pads after exposure and checking for debris, ensure their diet supports extra energy demands, and make sure they have safe, multiple ways to go in and out of the home.

Felines can get too cold, showing signs such as shivering, cold ears, slow movements, and lethargy. While snow can be enjoyable for some cats under close supervision, owners shouldn’t force them outside and must monitor their comfort and safety.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 31 million views and more than 3.7 million likes on the platform.

One user, Ashleyxo_xo, commented: “Snow leopard in the wild.”

Rorynani wrote: “I like that he got sick of jumping and was like, screw it, I’m gonna try swimming through this stuff.”

Beauty_skindeep said: “This was actually so satisfying to watch.”
