The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for a run at another Super Bowl this year, but they know prior success doesn’t mean anything in a new season.
With that in mind, they’re pursuing a title with a new vigor, according to an Eagles veteran.
Left tackle Jordan Mailata appeared on Kay Adams’ “Up & Adams” show on Wednesday and was asked about his assessment of quarterback Jalen Hurts’ “new hunger.”
‘Qb1 Leads From the Front’
Mailata equated Hurts’ new hunger to the changes that have come to the Eagles this offseason.
In addition to the regular turnover of players leaving and new ones being signed or drafted, the team parted ways with offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and replaced him with Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion.
“Every year, we always want to be a better version of ourselves than last year, and that was a big difference, just the way he came into the building was different,” Mailata said. “His attentiveness in meetings, the way he spoke in the meetings was amazing, was different. And then even the way he drilled out there was different. He stayed back almost every day to do drills with the wide receivers. And I think a lot of that has to do with the change in the building.”
Mailata added that in a situation like this, “you can either stay the same or change,” and Hurts has wholeheartedly chosen the latter.
“It was just amazing seeing QB1 do it and leading from the front and seeing that this change is good for us, because myself and [fellow tackle] Lane [Johnson], we’ve always known — and even I guess you could say Dallas [Goedert], but Dallas is a tight end, so he has to run routes — but we’ve had the same run scheme for nine years straight,” he said. “Now, we’re going into a new direction, a new era with with Sean Mannion’s offense and offensive style. Now we have to adapt we have to change and we shouldn’t fear change. We should welcome it and again, when your QB1 leads from the front, it’s comforting to know that someone like him could again lead the way he does and welcome that change.”
