Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love burst onto the scene three years ago with a breakout 4,159-yard, 32-touchdown season — his first as a starter in the NFL.
In the two years since, Love has battle some injuries, but he’s been on a steady trajectory of growth and development.
Heading into Year 4 as the Packers’ starter after replacing future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers, many are expecting big things from Love, including his head coach Matt LaFleur.
During an interview with NFL Network on Monday, LaFleur had some pretty lofty praise for Love as he raved about his QB’s ability to command the offense.
“He’s got to be the best I’ve been around in terms of protections, and adjustments, and rarely does he get out-schemed — it’s pretty remarkable,” LaFleur stated. “That was all foreign to him coming into the league. I think having the opportunity to sit back and learn from Aaron, and watch him do it at the level he did it was invaluable for him.”
LaFleur’s praise caught host Stacey Dales off guard, which prompted her to ask if LaFleur stood by his statement even after coaching Rodgers, a four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion.
“Aaron is going to get mad about this, but [Love] just…it’s uncanny what he can do at the line of scrimmage with our protection and adjustments,” LaFleur added.
In three seasons since taking over after Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets, Love has established himself as one of the top passers in the league. He’s 27-20-1 as a starter while throwing for 11,535 yards, 83 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions with a passer rating of 96.8.
Heading into next season with a strong supporting cast of weapons — running back Josh Jacobs, wide receivers Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, and tight end Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave — Love could be poised for his best season yet.
“To watch his growth is really a fun process,” LaFleur said. “He’s a great guy to work with every day. He’s so consistent, so even-keeled, which is why I think in those critical moments he can go out there and perform at a high level.”
