A New York Yankees relief pitcher is now officially a trade candidate to watch.
According to ESPN’s Jorge Castillo, the Yankees are open to the idea of moving reliever Camilo Doval with the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline rapidly approaching.
“While the New York Yankees are looking to add a leverage reliever or two, they’re also open to trading reliever Camilo Doval, sources told ESPN,” Castillo wrote.
Doval hitting the trade block comes as the 6-foot-2 righty is struggling with the Yankees this season. In 41 appearances for New York this campaign, he has a 4.86 ERA. This is after he had a 4.82 ERA in 22 games for the Yankees last season after being acquired from the San Francisco Giants.
Yet, when noting that Doval is a former All-Star who had plenty of success as a closer during his time with the Giants, it is possible that he will generate interest around the league. Contenders are always on the hunt for bullpen help, and Doval could provide just that if he bounced back with a change of scenery.
Doval had an ERA under 4.00 in four out of his previous five seasons, so he can be a very solid reliever when performing at his best. He also had a 3.09 ERA in 47 appearances with the Giants last season before being traded to the Yankees, so he was very effective not too long ago.
It will now be interesting to see what happens with Doval leading up to the trade deadline. He could use a fresh start, and some clubs could look to add him.
