Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 15 of the Kansas City Chiefs‘ 2025 season. Now several months later, the superstar quarterback is prepared to take the field for his team’s season-opening matchup against the Denver Broncos.
When speaking to reporters on Thursday, Mahomes fielded several questions regarding the status of his surgically-repaired knee. The veteran signal caller said he will wear a knee brace when he takes the field on Monday night, and hopes to continue his aggressive play style while also protecting his health.
Mahomes ended his press conference with a blunt response to this seemingly never-ending line of questioning.
“Hopefully I’m done with questions about the leg,” Mahomes said.
“This has always been the goal,” Mahomes said of playing in Week 1, via team insider Charles Goldman. “A long offseason, a lot of work. But now I get to go out there and play the game I love. Great environment, great opponent, and now I get to go out there and be myself.”
“I’ve built up the strength. I am going to keep myself out of harm’s way, like I always will,” Mahomes added. “I am a competitor. That’s how I always roll and how I always will roll for the rest of my career.”
