English professional golfer Marco Penge was scheduled to take the course at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club for the 126th playing of the U.S. Open later this month.

But on Tuesday, Penge announced his intentions to withdraw from the major event.

Penge has been dealing with nagging ear, neck and nervous system issues since suffering a viral infection in November 2025. Just before his last tournament appearance at the PGA Championship, he got another sinus infection that resulted in vertigo symptoms.

Penge announced his decision to step away from the course and focus on his health after missing the cut at the PGA Championship. He had hoped to return in time for the U.S. Open, but that won’t be the case.

“Unfortunately, myself and my team have decided that i am going to have to WD from the @usopengolf championship which Im gutted about. My health is the no.1 priority for now and until i get to the bottom of the issues i wont be competing. The plan is to return fully fit,” Penge wrote on social media.

I have had numerous scans and seen several specialists and we are getting close to resolving the issue that I’ve been struggling with for 8 months,” he continued. “I Appreciate the continued support as always and Ill be back soon!”

Penge’s best finish of the year was a T4 at the Valspar Championship, finishing three shots behind tournament winner Matt Fitzpatrick.

Round 1 of the U.S. Open will tee off on June 18.
