An unexpected bond between a black cat and a Friesian horse is warming hearts across social media after a sweet moment between the pair was shared online.
The video, posted on TikTok in February by user @elviravandeputte, shows the feline perched comfortably on a fence at the horse ranch, leaning forward to gently head-butt the horse standing beside it.
The clip captures a peaceful exchange between the two animals as the cat reaches out, making soft, affectionate gestures toward the much-larger companion.
According to the poster, their bond isn’t new. The pair have shared a close connection for years, spending much of their time together at the ranch.
“This Friesian horse and cat are friends for years now. They really like each other and are often together,” the poster, Elvira, from the Netherlands, told Newsweek.
“The day after I took this video, this horse had to visit the vet because of a leg problem; the cat was extra close with the horse and petted her in a way she didn’t before. Maybe she felt the horse could use some extra support.”
It didn’t take long for internet viewers to fall in love with them, and what started as a simple moment between two animals has turned into a viral reminder of the emotional connections pets can form.
The video quickly went viral and has already collected over 8.5 million views and almost 1 million likes on the platform.
One user, Cazoxford, commented: “The relationship between horses and cats is so special. They’re such unlikely friends, yet they just are.”
Irabodich said: “They speak the same language—the language of love.”
Mintaka.nl added: “I remember growing up we were taught animals have no emotion, feelings, toughs. Brainwashing us to believing we just live in a materialistic world. So mad about it.”
Another user, Meech__218, wrote: “The gentle kisses and the loving licks by the cat for the horse, and the horse for the cat has brought me to tears. I love black cats, and the fact that the horse is black also just touched my heart.
“I’m having such an awful day today and that loving just between two species has just lifted me from the bottom of my toes to the top of my head. I’m gonna thank God for that because only God could make creatures that love each other so sweetly, yet they are so different now let’s see a few minutes. Can do that too.”
