Malaysia’s first locally deployed Level 4 driverless vehicle begins public-road trial

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s first Level 4 driverless vehicle deployed on public roads by a local company will undergo a six-month trial in Cyberjaya, as the city expands its role in testing autonomous mobility technology.

The Level 4 RoboVan, developed using technology from Zelostech and deployed by Autonomous Logistic Solutions Sdn Bhd (ALS), will operate along the 22-kilometre Malaysia Autonomous Vehicle (MyAV) testing route under mixed-traffic conditions.

The vehicle is designed to transport goods without a driver or passenger onboard, with its operations monitored remotely.

Cyberview Sdn Bhd, the developer of Cyberjaya’s technology hub, established the testing route in 2020 with an initial length of 7km before extending it by another 15km in 2025 to support autonomous mobility trials in real-world urban conditions.

Cyberview chief executive officer Kamarul Ariffin Abdul Samad said the deployment highlighted the importance of having a dedicated environment for local innovators to test advanced technologies under real-world conditions.

"ALS’s fully driverless RoboVan is a proud moment for Cyberjaya. It showcases the capability of local innovators and shows why a dedicated hub where advanced technologies can be tested in real-world conditions matters," he said in a statement following the launch ceremony.

He said Cyberview would continue to support Malaysian technology development by providing the ecosystem, infrastructure and platforms needed to help innovators expand their solutions.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke launched the RoboVan at Transport Expo Asia 2026 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here today.

During the trial, ALS will monitor the vehicle’s driving performance, operating hours, distance travelled, trips completed, system interventions and other performance indicators.

The findings are expected to support the development of Malaysia’s autonomous vehicle ecosystem and inform future commercial deployment.

The trial builds on the establishment of Malaysia’s first dedicated Remote Operations Centre (ROC) for autonomous logistics in Cyberjaya in July, a joint initiative involving ALS, Cyberview and the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec).

The centre monitors autonomous vehicles through live video feeds, vehicle telemetry, route status and system diagnostics, providing operational oversight of vehicles on public roads.

Sidec chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the trial demonstrated how Cyberjaya’s operational infrastructure could support a Malaysian company in deploying a fully driverless vehicle on public roads.

He said the experience gained could help inform future national standards and deployment frameworks for autonomous mobility.

ALS began testing the technology at a private compound with Pos Malaysia in January, followed by a live demonstration in Shah Alam in June.

As Zelostech’s strategic Malaysian partner, ALS is responsible for adapting the technology for local use and managing its operations in the country.

ALS managing director Alan Chong said the trial would help build local capabilities in autonomous vehicle operations, engineering, fleet management and remote supervision.

"For us, this is more than just a licence plate. It's about making autonomous technology a reality in Malaysia, showing that local companies can achieve and build the foundation for the future of autonomous logistics in our country and the region," he said.

The company’s longer-term focus is on point-to-point logistics, including transporting goods between warehouses, logistics hubs, manufacturing facilities, ports and airports.

The trial follows regulatory approvals under Malaysia’s autonomous vehicle framework, involving engagement with the Transport Ministry, Road Transport Department, Land Public Transport Agency, Digital Ministry and Futurise. –BERNAMA
