Despite the 2026 World Cup approaching, Inter Miami's head coach, Javier Mascherano, insists he has no intention of resting superstar Lionel Messi during this crucial period.

Furthermore, the Argentinian strategist emphasized that Messi's presence on the field is a crucial factor in the team achieving its goals.

Speaking after the dramatic 3-2 victory against New York City FC (22-3), coach Mascherano shared his thoughts on the condition of his former teammate after the Argentinian superstar scored:

"We try to take the best care of him possible, but everyone knows Messi is the type of player who feels most comfortable and maintains his best physical condition when he's playing consistently."

Notably, Mascherano had to deliver these comments via video link because he was serving a one-match touchline ban (a consequence of his red card in last week's match against Charlotte).

He affirmed that all decisions regarding Messi's playing intensity were based on mutual agreement and close communication between the coaching staff and the 38-year-old superstar himself.

After being eliminated from the Concacaf Champions Cup by Nashville SC, Inter Miami is now solely focused on the MLS. This is why Mascherano wants to make the most of Messi's services.

"Honestly, without him, it would be difficult for us to achieve our goals. The schedule is quite manageable over the next two months, with only one match per week. So, whenever Messi is ready, it's an invaluable addition to the squad," said coach Javier Mascherano.

Despite still shining at Inter Miami, Messi has not officially confirmed his participation in the 2026 World Cup. He stated that the final decision will depend on his feelings and physical condition ahead of the summer in North America.
