A study by Japan Women's University also determined that the active compounds in the buds of the Syzygium jambos plant (mainly polyphenols) can inhibit the activity of the alpha-glucosidase enzyme, slowing down the breakdown of sugar and the absorption of sugar from food into the bloodstream. This helps to limit post-meal hyperglycemia and control blood sugar levels in the long term.

According to the National Institute of Nutrition, the buds of the Vối plant (Syzygium jambos) have the ability to neutralize free radicals, fight oxidation, effectively prevent aging, and protect against oxidative damage to pancreatic cells. The beta-sitosterol component in Vối buds helps regulate cholesterol metabolism in the blood, supporting the reduction of blood lipids.

The buds of the Vối plant are used to brew or steep tea. Enjoy Vối bud tea like other teas, but don't make it too strong. People with diabetes can drink it stronger, but it should not replace their prescribed medication. If you have other conditions besides diabetes, consult your doctor before using it.

In addition, vối tea provides the body with several essential minerals and vitamins. The leaves and buds of the vối plant also contain a plant-based antibiotic that kills many disease-causing bacteria, including both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The highest antibiotic properties are found when leaves and buds are harvested in winter. With its natural active ingredients, vối bud or leaf tea can also help prevent and treat bloating and indigestion.

The National Institute of Nutrition also noted that although vối tea is not toxic, caution should still be exercised when consuming it; elderly people who suffer from constipation or lack of body fluids should not drink too much.

According to traditional medicine, the entire Vối plant has a slightly bitter and astringent taste, a cooling nature, and is non-toxic. It has the effects of clearing heat, disinfecting, and relieving stagnation. The tea made from Vối leaves and buds is effective in quenching thirst, cooling the body, and promoting urination, thus helping to eliminate toxins from the body through the urinary tract. The bitter substances in Vối stimulate the secretion of digestive juices; the essential oils have high antibacterial properties but do not harm beneficial bacteria residing in the digestive tract.
