Nearly seven years after the G05 generation was launched, the German automaker BMW officially introduced the all-new X5 (code G65), marking the biggest transformation for this best-selling SUV since its initial debut in 1999.
According to images published by Carscoops , the most noticeable change to the BMW X5 is its exterior, which has been developed according to the Neue Klasse design philosophy, featuring a slimmer kidney grille and new graphics for the headlights and taillights.
Notably, traditional door handles have been replaced with integrated door panels on the body to improve aerodynamics. The car also has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, increasing space for the rear seats.
The cockpit has been almost completely redesigned, featuring a 17.9-inch central screen, an optional screen for the front passenger, and a Panoramic Vision display that extends across the windshield.
This is the new display technology that BMW will apply to models in the Neue Klasse generation. The BMW Operating System X and the AI-powered virtual assistant will also appear on the new X5.
Most notably, BMW has added an all-electric version, the iX5, to its X5 product line for the first time.
The vehicle uses a next-generation 800V electrical system, equipped with two electric motors for approximately 570 horsepower, an estimated range of over 700 km according to EPA standards, and supports super-fast charging, which can add about 270 km of range after just 10 minutes of DC charging.
Besides the iX5, BMW maintains a range of other powertrain options, including mild-hybrid gasoline engines, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), diesel engines in some markets, and plans to add a hydrogen fuel cell version in the near future. This also marks the first time a generation of the X5 has offered five powertrain options right from its launch.
According to plan, the new BMW X5 will begin sales in select markets from late 2026 with the X5 40 xDrive version. The BMW X5 40 RWD, X5 50e PHEV, and iX5 versions will launch in early 2027. Meanwhile, the high-performance M Performance and iX5 Hydrogen versions will be added to the product range later.
