Tonali is a top midfielder in the Premier League.
According to Sky Sports , Spurs have reached an agreement to sign the Italian midfielder for a total value of up to £100 million, including an initial transfer fee of £92.5 million plus £7.5 million in add-ons based on the team's performance, particularly their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
Once the deal is complete, Tonali will become Tottenham's most expensive signing in history, surpassing the £85 million record they just set when they reached an agreement to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham a few days ago.
In addition to Fernandes, the North London club signed defender Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for £52 million, and also added Andy Robertson and Marco Senesi on free transfers.
Sandro Tonali is considered a crucial piece in that plan. After joining Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023 for around £60.5 million, the 26-year-old midfielder went through a difficult period when he was banned for 10 months for violating Italian Football Federation betting regulations. However, since returning in August 2024, Tonali has proven his class with 110 appearances for Newcastle, contributing 10 goals and 10 assists.
Last season, Tonali played 53 games in all competitions and became an effective partner for captain Bruno Guimaraes in Newcastle's midfield. His tackling ability, creative passing, and excellent physical fitness made him one of the most complete central midfielders in the Premier League.
With Tonali's arrival alongside names like Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr, and Archie Gray, Tottenham now possess a midfield that is among the strongest and deepest in the Premier League.
