Newly leaked images of the 2026 Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08 large SUV reveal a cockpit design that wraps around the front-seat occupants.
Volkswagen has officially unveiled the interior of its new all-electric large SUV, the ID.Unyx 08. Expected to launch in the first quarter of 2026, the ID.Unyx 08 is being developed in collaboration between Volkswagen and the Chinese automaker Xpeng.
This electric SUV incorporates many technologies derived from Xpeng, including 800V high-voltage system components as well as connectivity and driver assistance software. From the images released by the manufacturer, it can be seen that the Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08 features a cockpit design that wraps around the front-seat occupants.
The driver-focused cockpit layout includes a 10.25-inch LCD digital instrument panel, combined with two 14.96-inch linked screens, providing sharp 2.4K resolution to display navigation maps, vehicle status, and interactions with the active safety systems (ADAS). Furthermore, the car is equipped with a two-spoke steering wheel, bringing back physical buttons and a control dial.
All seats in the Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08 are upholstered in premium Nappa leather. The driver's seat features heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The front passenger seat is 14-way power adjustable, includes power leg rests, and reclines up to 120°, supporting a "big bed" mode. Rear passengers benefit from 10° power reclining seatbacks and convenient folding tables.
Additionally, the interior features a smart panoramic sunroof with an area of 1.74 m². This sunroof has 10 adjustment levels and can switch between transparent and opaque states. The Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08 is the production version of the ID. EVO Concept car.
The Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08 has dimensions of 5,000 x 1,954 x 1,672-1,688 mm (length x width x height) and a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. Despite its large size, the car is only equipped with a two-row interior with five seats.
Externally, the Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08 electric SUV closely follows the design lines of the concept version. As an electric vehicle, this large SUV features a completely enclosed front end design, accompanied by slim, upward-sweeping headlights and the Volkswagen logo placed in the center.
Next, the black-painted A-pillar creates a floating roof effect, along with roof rails, hidden door handles, and thick-spoke alloy wheels. Larger wheels and colored brake calipers are optional features. At the rear, the ID.Unyx 08 features slim taillights and a distinctive red illuminated Volkswagen logo.
In the Chinese market, the Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08 will be offered in two configurations: rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The RWD version uses a single electric motor with a maximum power output of 230 kW (308 hp). The AWD version uses two electric motors with a maximum power output of 140 kW (188 hp) at the front and 230 kW (308 hp) at the rear.
Powering this SUV model is a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CATL with capacities of 82.368 kWh and 95.04 kWh. These battery options provide driving ranges of 630 km, 700 km, and 730 km, respectively, under the CLTC cycle.
Finally, there's the advanced L2++ level driver assistance system, which includes "park-to-park" navigation capabilities on both city and highway roads. The system also supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates for continuous improvement. In addition, the vehicle integrates an AI virtual assistant using a big language model to enhance interaction.
The Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08 electric SUV made its debut last November. It joins Anhui Volkswagen's expanding product lineup, which currently includes the upcoming ID.Unyx 06 compact SUV and the ID.Unyx 07 electric sedan.
