According to reports in the British press, manager Jose Mourinho wants the French international to stay and contribute to Real Madrid.
However, that didn't stop the Old Trafford club from contacting Real Madrid to explore the possibility of a deal.
Tchouameni has just entered a three-week summer vacation, after reaching the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup with the French national team.
He is under contract until 2028, although many sources suggest Tchouameni has reached an agreement to extend his contract until 2031. However, Real Madrid has not made any official announcement.
Manchester United's management considers Tchouameni a strategic transfer target as he falls within their preferred age range of 22 to 26.
Notably, the French player specializes in the defensive midfield position, unlike the two new signings Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, who are more suited to the box-to-box midfield role.
After parting ways with Casemiro, MU is looking for a true defensive midfielder to strengthen their midfield. Ironically, Real Madrid themselves signed Tchouameni in 2022 to replace Casemiro, when the Brazilian star moved to Old Trafford.
This isn't the first time MU has shown interest in Tchouameni. In 2021, the Manchester club had the opportunity to sign him but couldn't afford the investment.
At that time, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to add a young defensive midfielder, but they missed out on both targets, Declan Rice and Tchouameni.
