According to the latest report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), hybrid vehicles continued to experience strong growth in the Vietnamese market during the first half of 2026.
Specifically, a total of 13,889 hybrid vehicles were sold in the first eight months, a 65% increase compared to the same period last year (with 8,414 units).
Hybrid car sales accounted for approximately 7.8% of the total number of cars sold by VAMA members and car importers in the first eight months of 2026.
Amidst the continued volatility of fuel prices, coupled with the growing trend of reduced emissions and electrification, hybrid vehicles continue to attract Vietnamese consumers due to their fuel efficiency and independence from charging station infrastructure.
However, the Vietnamese hybrid market is still mainly dominated by Japanese brands, thanks to their early entry advantage and diverse product portfolios.
Below is a detailed breakdown of the top 5 best-selling hybrid car models after the first 8 months of 2026:
1. Toyota Corolla Cross HEV: 3,559 units
The Toyota Corolla Cross HEV continues to lead the Vietnamese hybrid market after the first eight months of 2026 with sales of 3,559 units, contributing 74.8% of the total Toyota Corolla Cross sales.
Compared to the 1,650 units sold in the first eight months of 2025, Corolla Cross HEV sales increased sharply by 116%, becoming the best-selling hybrid model in the Vietnamese market.
The Toyota Corolla Cross is in the B+ segment of SUV/crossovers, entering the Vietnamese market in 2020 and being refreshed in early May 2024, with two versions, V and HEV (the G version was discontinued), priced at 820 and 905 million VND respectively.
In early 2026, Toyota adjusted the price of the HEV version down to 865 million VND, a reduction of 40 million VND compared to before. The Corolla Cross HEV hybrid version uses a 1.8L engine combined with an electric motor, for a total power output of 105 horsepower, paired with a CVT automatic transmission.
2. Toyota Innova Cross HEV: 3,247 units
The Toyota Innova Cross HEV, its "sibling," ranked second with 3,247 units sold in the first eight months of the year, a 75.3% increase compared to the same period in 2025 (1,852 units). In August alone, this MPV model achieved sales of 371 units.
Thus, the hybrid version alone accounts for approximately 43.3% of the total sales of this MPV model from the beginning of 2026 to the present.
The Toyota Innova Cross was launched in the Vietnamese market in October 2023 with three versions: G, 2.0 V, and 2.0 HEV (hybrid), priced at 730 million, 825 million, and 1.005 billion VND respectively. All versions are imported as complete units from Indonesia . In early 2026, the 2.0 HEV hybrid version saw a price reduction of 45 million VND, down to 960 million VND.
The Innova Cross 2.0 HEV is equipped with a hybrid system featuring a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 150 horsepower and 188 Nm of torque, combined with an electric motor producing 111 horsepower and 206 Nm of torque.
3. Honda CR-V e:HEV: 2,228 units
The Honda CR-V e:HEV ranked third with 2,228 units sold in the first eight months of 2026, a 73.4% increase compared to last year. Similar to the Toyota Corolla Cross, the hybrid version of the CR-V sold even better than the gasoline-only version, accounting for 53% of the total sales of this C-segment crossover in Vietnam.
The new generation Honda CR-V was launched in the Vietnamese market at the end of October 2023, and this also marks the first time the RS e:HEV hybrid version has been introduced as an import from Thailand .
From the beginning of 2026, Honda Vietnam switched to assembling the CR-V hybrid at its factory in Phu Tho, offering two versions: e:HEV RS (premium) and e:HEV L (standard), priced at 1.17 and 1.25 billion VND respectively. This is also the only hybrid model on this list that is manufactured and assembled domestically.
4. Toyota Yaris Cross HEV: 1,564 units
The Toyota Yaris Cross was the best-selling internal combustion engine vehicle in Vietnam during the first eight months of 2026, with 10,847 units sold, including 1,564 HEV hybrid versions, accounting for 14.4%. Simultaneously, Toyota's B-SUV surpassed the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid in the top five best-selling hybrid vehicles in Vietnam.
The Toyota Yaris Cross was imported to Vietnam from September 2023 as a completely built-up unit from Indonesia. It comes in two versions: the V (pure gasoline) priced at 650 million VND and the HEV (hybrid) priced at 765 million VND.
The Yaris Cross HEV has recently had its list price reduced by 37 million VND by the Japanese automaker, bringing the selling price down to 728 million VND. The hybrid version of the Yaris Cross uses a 1.5L engine combined with an electric motor, for a total power output of 111 horsepower, paired with a CVT automatic transmission.
5. Suzuki XL7 Hybrid: 1,208 units
Despite not having exceptionally impressive sales figures, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid remains the best-selling passenger car of the Japanese automaker. In the first eight months of the year, 1,208 XL7 Hybrids were sold, accounting for over 60% of Suzuki's total passenger car sales in Vietnam.
The Suzuki XL7 Hybrid is an upgraded version of the previous XL7, with the biggest highlight being the engine being further supported by an integrated starter generator (ISG) and a small-capacity lithium-ion battery pack. This engine produces 103 horsepower, combined with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The listed price of the XL7 Hybrid is 599.9 million VND.

According to VAMA, total market sales in August reached 25,395 vehicles, a decrease of 25% compared to July and a decrease of 2% compared to the same period in 2025. Passenger cars alone reached 16,738 units, a significant decrease of 34% compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Thanh Cong Auto Joint Venture sold 2,928 vehicles in August, including commercial vehicles, a decrease of 17.6% compared to July. VinFast , on the other hand, delivered 20,161 electric vehicles in August, a decrease of approximately 7% compared to the previous month.
According to combined data from VAMA, VinFast, and Hyundai Thanh Cong, the total number of cars sold in the Vietnamese automotive market in August reached 48,484 units, a decrease of 17.9% compared to July.
