The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid is expected to reach US customers this month, marking the first time Kia's large SUV has been equipped with a hybrid powertrain.

According to Kia America, the 2027 Kia Telluride hybrid variant has a maximum fuel economy of approximately 35 mpg, equivalent to about 6.7 liters/100 km for the front-wheel-drive EX version. In addition, this model will continue to be manufactured in the US and will offer an optional 2.5L turbocharged gasoline engine.

For the pure petrol engine version, combined fuel consumption is around 22 mpg for the front-wheel drive version and 20 mpg for the all-wheel drive version. The X-Pro variant may consume more fuel due to its off-road tires and other upgrades for off-road capability.

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid's design is accentuated by high roof rails, while integrated tow hooks are standard. The vehicle also utilizes the most advanced all-wheel drive system on the Telluride lineup, combined with an electronic limited-slip differential that flexibly distributes torque between the rear wheels.

Additionally, the center differential lock allows for even traction distribution when driving on challenging terrain. Other off-road support features include an off-road driving mode, front and rear tow hooks, and a Ground View Monitor system. This technology uses cameras to display images of the ground around the vehicle when moving at low speeds, helping the driver easily observe the terrain.

In terms of performance, the 2.5L four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine in the standard and X-Pro versions of the 2027 Kia Telluride delivers 274 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque under optimal conditions. When combined with the hybrid system, the total output reaches 329 horsepower and 460 Nm of torque.

The Telluride's hybrid system is a parallel hybrid, where the internal combustion engine operates on an Atkinson cycle to optimize fuel efficiency. This system uses two electric motors: one located between the engine and transmission to provide propulsion, while the other acts as a starter generator, ensuring smooth start-stop operation and managing battery charge levels.

A 1.65 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack is located under the second row of seats to keep the rear cargo floor flat. This battery pack can power the audio system, air conditioning, and other electronic devices for about 20 minutes while the vehicle is stationary. The hybrid version uses a 6-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter, while the all-gasoline version is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Within the Telluride product range, the X-Pro SX Prestige sits above the X-Line SX Prestige variant, targeting a more upscale customer base. This model starts at $56,790 in the US, excluding shipping and optional equipment. Compared to the X-Line, the X-Pro features wider tires, an upgraded suspension system, 9.1 inches of ground clearance, and numerous black exterior accents.

In the three-row SUV segment, the 2027 Telluride faces competition from rivals such as the Hyundai Palisade – a model sharing the same platform – the Ford Explorer, Toyota Grand Highlander, and Honda Pilot. The Toyota Grand Highlander itself also offers hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. Within Hyundai Motor Group, the Palisade Hybrid is considered a direct competitor to the Telluride Hybrid.
