On February 11th, Tottenham Hotspur announced the termination of their contract with head coach Thomas Frank, amidst a slump in form and their current 16th place in the Premier League table.
According to a statement from Tottenham, the board admitted they had been "determined to give the Danish manager more time to improve the situation." However, a series of unconvincing results and performances forced the club to make a change at a crucial point in the season.
“During his time at the club, Thomas Frank always demonstrated dedication and commitment to the team’s development. We appreciate his contributions and wish him success in his future endeavors,” the statement read.
Coach Thomas Frank was appointed in June 2025 on a three-year contract, replacing Ange Postecoglou. However, under his leadership, Tottenham's performance has not improved significantly. The London team is currently on an eight-match winless streak in the Premier League, with only two wins in their last 17 league games and only five points above the relegation zone.
Frank's final match as Tottenham manager was a 1-2 defeat against Newcastle United on February 10th. Less than 12 hours earlier, he had expressed confidence in continuing to lead the team in the North London derby against Arsenal on February 22nd.
Last season, Tottenham also experienced their worst Premier League campaign in history, finishing 17th with 38 points and losing 22 matches. Despite this, the team still qualified for the UEFA Champions League after winning the Europa League – their first title since 2008.
In the 2025-2026 season, Tottenham only won 6 of their first 16 Premier League matches, suffering consecutive heavy defeats against Arsenal, Fulham, Bournemouth, and West Ham United. This poor run of results led to strong criticism of manager Frank Frank from the fans on several occasions.
However, in European competition, Tottenham had a more positive record, finishing fourth in their Champions League group and securing direct qualification to the round of 16.
During the 2025 summer transfer window, Tottenham spent over £114 million to sign Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus, while also loaning Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani. However, the team suffered a setback when midfielder James Maddison sustained a knee ligament injury just before the season, and Dejan Kulusevski was still unavailable due to injury.
During the winter transfer window, Tottenham added midfielder Conor Gallagher and left-back Souza to strengthen their squad.
Before joining Tottenham, coach Thomas Frank spent seven years managing Brentford, helping the team gain promotion to the Premier League for the first time and successfully avoid relegation for four consecutive seasons.
