Here we go, ladies and gentlemen, it looks like the official pricing for the all-new Prelude here in the Philippines is already out, and is definitely way higher than anyone expected it to be.
In a post by Honda Cars Nueva Ecija, announcing reservation details for today, the dealership has also posted the price of the Honda Prelude, which is **drumroll please… a grand total of P3,498,000. Want the Moonlit White Pearl color option? Well, you have to add extra for that as well.
Let that sink in for a bit. Done? Alright, so what do you get for that price? The same exact powertrain as found on the Civic RS e:HEV, a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder hybrid making 181 hp and 315 Nm of torque. Exclusive to the Prelude is the new S+ Shift system, which simulates gear changes through engine revolutions, as well as a four-piston Brembo braking system and FL5 Civic Type R underpinnings.
In terms of rivals (price comparisons rather), the Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ and the Mazda Miata all slot way below 3 million. The Nissan Z, which gives you 400 hp, is priced at P3.988M, and the Toyota GR Yaris tops out at P3.550M, with its GR Corolla sibling topping out at nearly 4M. While the Mazda Miata has nearly the same power levels, it is priced way below 3M, and has been proven to be a fantastic car to drive. As for the others? Not only do you get more power, but you get a car that is more focused in its philosophy.
All that said, do the upgrades of the Prelude necessitate a P1.5M price premium over the Civic RS e:HEV? We definitely have our answer, but what do all of you think?
Anyways, those interested will be happy to note that reservations for the all-new Prelude open today, if you can fathom the price that is.
